Jit’s journey began at Chaminade, where he was an engaged and well-rounded student. He served on the student council, participated in the LIFE Team and the High Sierra Club, and competed in varsity swimming and varsity cross country, while also playing JV soccer.
After graduating in 1996, Jit attended Stanford University, where he earned a master’s degree in mechanical engineering in 2002. A highlight of his time at Stanford was winning the National Championship in Ultimate Frisbee that same year. He later completed his MBA at the University of California, Berkeley in 2008.
Following graduate school, Jit established himself as a leader in Silicon Valley’s electric vehicle and lithium-ion battery industries. He served as CEO of Mission Motors, a pioneering company that developed an electric motorcycle capable of 170 miles per hour, and later worked as a senior manager in Apple’s Special Projects.
Despite these successes, Jit felt called to work at the intersection of clean energy, climate action, and international development.
In 2017, Jit became Chief Technology Officer at Fenix, a company bringing clean, modern electricity to nearly 600 million people in rural Africa who lack access to the power grid.
That experience led to his most impactful endeavor yet. In 2021, Jit founded BasiGo, a Nairobi-based company transforming public transportation across Africa. In cities where more than 70 percent of residents rely on aging, polluting diesel buses, BasiGo has pioneered the transition to clean, modern electric buses, leveraging Africa’s abundant renewable energy to reduce air pollution, lower carbon emissions, and decrease dependence on imported fuel. His work with BasiGo has earned international recognition, including the honor of representing Kenya’s electric vehicle industry in a private roundtable with former U.S. President Joe Biden and Kenya’s President, His Excellency William Samoei Ruto.
Jit’s story is one of vision, courage, and impact, proof that innovation, when guided by purpose, can change lives across the world.
Chaminade is committed to being a good neighbor.
